Men’s Health Month

Most men don’t consider the risks to their health as long as they’re working and feeling productive. Men visit their physicians less often than women, but when they do go, they are more likely to have a serious condition. Even if you’re feeling healthy, a little planning can help you stay that way. The main threats to men’s health are known, common and often preventable. Screening tests can find diseases early enough to easily treat.

Heart disease is the leading men’s health threat. The most common cause is narrowing or blockage of the blood vessels supplying the heart itself, which causes a heart attack. To reduce your risk, have your cholesterol checked regularly, control your blood pressure, quit smoking, increase physical activity to 30 minutes per day, and eat more fruits and vegetables, and less saturated or trans fats.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian men. Symptoms may include problems passing urine such as pain, difficulty starting or stopping the stream, and painful ejaculation. Screening for prostate cancer requires a digital rectal exam and a blood test for prostate specific antigen (PSA).

Colorectal cancer or cancer of the colon is common in people over 50. The likelihood increases with presence of polyps, or growths inside the colon and rectum. A diet high in fat, and a family or personal history of colorectal cancer, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s disease may increase this risk. Symptoms may include blood in the stool, change in bowel habits or general stomach discomfort. Screening is important since symptoms may not appear at first. A colonoscopy is one method your doctor can use to detect this cancer, and everyone who is 50 or older should be screened.

Erectile dysfunction may not be life threatening, but it still signals an important health issue. It can be caused by hardening of the blood vessels, so your doctor may consider it an early warning sign of heart disease. Treatments are available to make a fulfilling sex life, but they don’t cure the condition.

Depression and suicide are not talked about frequently in men, because studies show they are less likely to seek help. Men tend to hide depressed feelings or express them in different ways than women. They may get angry and aggressive, or they cope in unhealthy ways such as using alcohol or drugs. Depression can develop when brain chemicals and stress hormones are out of balance. Sleep, appetite and energy levels are disturbed. Research shows men with depression are more likely to develop heart disease. Most men and women respond well to treatments with medications and emotional therapy.

Now that you know about some of the health risks affecting men, be proactive and change your habits. Addressing your health can be scary, but avoiding it altogether can be deadly. There are many ways to get information, resources, and support if you are experiencing any symptoms. Contact your doctor early if you feel you may have a condition, or just want to get a checkup.

• Supports overall urinary health
• Improves urine flow
• Decreases urination frequency at night

E-Z Flo is used for prostate health and indicated for BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia – enlarged prostate). It is used to promote the health of the genitourinary system.
It may help to reduce symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) leading to a reduction in the number of times that a gentleman may need to use the bathroom at night thus helping with sleep, stress and irritation.
E-Z Flo contains herbal botanicals that contain antioxidants and nutrients that support kidneys and urinary pathways. Botanicals like Saw Palmetto (Liposterolic extract) and Dodder seed (Cuscuta chinensis) have been used to help prevent the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Elevated levels of DHT contribute to enlarged prostate and hair loss, among other conditions. These herbs naturally block DHT synthesis.

Other herbs are used as nutritive tonics that contain antioxidants: African Pygeum bark extract, Stinging Nettle, Alday seed (Coix lachryma-jobi), Zhuling Sclerotium (Polyporus umbellatus) and Alfalfa leaf contain trace elements that help to reduce inflammation. LessTerol®

Cholesterol is usually transported around the body in the blood bound to different proteins. Depending on the type of protein, it is called HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) or LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein). High LDL, in conjunction with a low HDL, has been associated with atherosclerotic plaque formation and hence has been linked to heart disease.
Atherosclerotic plaque formation on the arterial walls causes hardening and narrowing of the arteries which can lead to heart attack and stroke.
There are several naturally occurring substances that have been shown to significantly decrease blood cholesterol. Some of these include phytosterols, inositol hexanicotinate (non-flushing niacin), folic acid, red yeast rice and policosanol and are all contained in LessTerol. Available in 60 capsules.
